This article explains how to get connected to IPSTAR ADSL & ADSL 2+ how long it takes, installation costs and whether the service is available in your location.
What is the service?
The ADSL /ADSL2+ service provides Australians living in country and rural areas high speed broadband internet through an existing telephone line. To be eligible for the service you will require an active telephone line and a phone number at your property.
What is the difference between ADSL and ADSL2+?
ADSL or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line Service is used to describe high-speed broadband services provided over the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The technology allows for high-speed communications over copper lines. It is called asymmetric because the upload and download speeds are not the same, the download speed is faster than the upload speed.
ADSL2+ has double the bandwidth for downstream data transmission. It can achieve downstream data at rates of 20Mbps on telephone lines.
How do I get it installed?
Once you submit your order, IPSTAR will begin the process of activating the ADSL & ADSL 2+ service, and advise you when it will be active. If you have ordered any hardware, you will receive it in 3-5 business days of our being notified of the connection date from our supplier. You will receive detailed instructions to help you install the hardware and begin using the service straightaway.
If you are with another provider, you will not experience any downtime and will stay connected until we move you to your new IPSTAR ADSL & ADSL 2+ service on the scheduled appointment day.
How long does it take?
It normally takes approximately 10 days from the time we receive your completed application form to activate your service. However owing to circumstances such as type of service or service area which are beyond our control, it could take longer. We will do our best to ensure your new service is activated as soon as possible.
Is the service available at my location?
You can check the availability of your address on the address checker on our website or call IPSTAR 132 800 and one of our friendly nbn™ experts will be able to advise you whether you are eligible for the service and also answer any other question you may have.
Can I still sign up if my phone line is not provided by Telstra?
You may be eligible to sign up subject to IPSTAR service qualifications. Please call us on 132 800 and we can check this for you.
Can I get a new IPSTAR ADSL & ADSL 2+ service if my current ADSL & ADSL 2+ is with another provider but my phone line is connected via Telstra network?
Subject to IPSTAR service qualifications, you may be able to apply for a fast transfer/churn to ADSL & ADSL 2+ as long as your nominated phone line is compatible with ADSL & ADSL 2+ service. The processing time is usually shorter than for a new installation.
What happens to my phone service and my ADSL & ADSL 2+ connection after I have completed an application?
Once your order is completed, IPSTAR will then start the process of activating the ADSL & ADSL 2+ service. Your new IPSTAR ADSL & ADSL 2+ service should be active on the arranged day of activation.
Is there any interruption for my old phone or ADSL & ADSL 2+ service?
No. There is no downtime if your current ADSL & ADSL 2+ service is provided by other provider. You will stay connected until we move you to your new IPSTAR ADSL & ADSL 2+ service on the scheduled appointment day.
