What Is nbn®Amazon Leo?
Amazon Leo is a new satellite internet service from Amazon, coming to regional and remote Australia through nbn®. It uses satellites that orbit much closer to Earth than the current nbn® Sky Muster service, helping internet feel faster and more responsive.
That means smoother video calls, better streaming, and a connection that is designed to keep up with the way households, farms, and small businesses actually use the internet.
Sky Muster orbits at about 36,000 km above Earth. Amazon Leo satellites sit around 630 km up, roughly 60 times closer.
nbn® Amazon Leo Connecting the Australian Bush
On 5 August 2025, nbn® and Amazon announced an eight-year agreement to deliver high-speed wholesale broadband to regional, rural, and remote Australia using Amazon Leo’s satellite technology. The deal covers more than 300,000 premises within nbn’s existing satellite footprint and will progressively replace the current Sky Muster satellite service.
nbn® CEO Ellie Sweeney described the deal as delivering "city-fast" broadband to the most remote areas of the continent. Eligible existing Sky Muster satellite customers will receive free satellite terminal, professional installation, and assurance services during the migration.
For Australians in remote areas, the transition represents a generational leap.

nbn® Amazon Leo Customer Terminal.
The Leo Pro terminal is powered by Amazon’s custom Prometheus chip and uses an electronically steered phased-array antenna with no moving parts.
Eligible existing Sky Muster satellite customers are expected to receive a free satellite terminal, professional installation, and assurance services during migration.
The Leo Pro terminal is roughly the size of a dinner plate at just 28 x 28 cm.

Amazon Leo: Everything You Need to Know
nbn Amazon Leo is a new satellite broadband service from nbn, built in partnership with Amazon. It uses the latest generation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to deliver a much faster, more responsive internet connection to homes and businesses in regional and remote Australia.
Trials start in Tasmania in late 2026, with a phased national rollout through 2027. Sky Muster and Sky Muster Plus services are being withdrawn from the market in 2028.
Yes. Latency — the signal delay — drops from 600+ milliseconds to 30-50 milliseconds and upload speeds increase, making video calls, gaming, and cloud apps genuinely usable.
Retail pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet. However, nbn has indicated that pricing for existing Sky Muster customers who upgrade early will be comparable to current Sky Muster Plus pricing. Details will be shared as soon as they’re available — register your interest on the website to stay updated.
No. For upgrading Sky Muster customers, the Leo Pro terminal and indoor Wi-Fi unit are provided at no cost. Professional installation by an nbn technician is included, regardless of plan or location.
Yes. Early upgraders get special pricing comparable to current Sky Muster Plus rates. Waiting too long risks being moved to a higher standard rate. There’s also a 7-day overlap period where both services run while you only pay for the new one.
Both are LEO services with similar responsiveness. The key differences: nbn Amazon Leo includes free professional installation, on-site technician fault support, regulatory pricing stability, and provider choice.
It won’t be removed on installation day — giving you time to confirm the new service works properly. You can request removal later through the nbn website.
First point of contact is IPSTAR Broadband. If a fault needs on-site attention, nbn technicians can visit the premises — the same model as the current Sky Muster service.
