What’s the difference between standard nbn Sky Muster and nbn Sky Muster Plus?

IPSTAR Broadband  nbn Sky Muster Plus is the newest way to experience satellite internet from the nbn. When satellite internet from the nbn was first released, people could only use 300GB of data or less. If a customer used any more data than was available in their plan, their internet was slowed down for the rest of the month.

If you were on a 50GB standard nbn Sky Muster plan and one of your children downloaded a 50GB PlayStation game update on the first day of the month, you would have to wait another 30 days until you could use the internet at full speed again. This is the worst thing that could happen to a rural family that needed the internet to be fast enough to pay their bills and keep in touch with their family. You would be out of luck and having to pay extra for data top ups that may cut into an already tight family budget.

The frustrations that came with the original and now standard nbn Sky Muster plans are now gone and have been replaced with new IPSTAR Broadband nbn Sky Muster Plus plans.

If you have a child at home and you’re on a 50GB nbn Sky Muster Plus plan and they download a 50GB PlayStation game update on day 1 of your plan, guess what? You won’t be out of data!  Downloading a PlayStation game update doesn’t count towards your monthly data allowance at all on IPSTAR Broadband nbn Sky Muster Plus.

Most online activity on IPSTAR Broadband nbn Sky Muster Plus is unmetered, data is unmetered by default. Unmetered activity means that this type of usage does not count towards your data limit. Metered activity is data usage that counts towards your data limit and is limited by how much metered data is available on your IPSTAR Broadband nbn Sky Muster Plus plan. Metered activity on IPSTAR Broadband nbn Sky Muster Plus includes video streaming, VPN use and all unclassified data usage.

Q: What can I do that is unmetered on IPSTAR Broadband nbn Sky Muster Plus and won’t count towards my data? Also, what are all the things that are metered?

  • (1) Unclassified is any internet activity that cannot be classified as any of the other activity types.
  • (2) Includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr and LinkedIn. Embedded video in other applications is metered.
  • (3) Shaping to 256Kbps may occur between 4pm and 11pm.
  • When peak metered data is exhausted, metered internet activity is shaped during the peak period to 512Kbps download and 256Kbps upload. When off peak metered data is exhausted, metered internet activity is shaped during the off-peak period to 2048Kbps download and 512Kbps upload.

The main difference between the two products is that IPSTAR Broadband nbn Sky Muster Plus gives you a whole bunch of unmetered activities that don’t count towards your data limit no matter what Sky Muster Plus plan you choose to get. Standard nbn Sky Muster doesn’t have any activities that don’t count towards your data, so once you run out, you will be slowed down for the rest of the month.

For those looking for just the basics, we recommend choosing a nbn Sky Muster Plus 50 plan from IPSTAR Broadband for $50 per month on a 24-month contract, minimum cost $1200. This will give your family 50 hours of Netflix video on standard definition and a whole bunch of unmetered activities that don’t count towards your data at all, allowing you to keep in touch with your family, friends, and work colleagues from home stress-free.
